"Mr. Jackson C. Van Trece is a product of the Paola, Kansas school system. He received his degree from Kansas State University, Pittsburg, Kansas. He also holds a masters degree. Mr. Van Trece joined the University of Missouri at Kansas City in 1970. At that time he was the director of the Upward Bound program. He holds the distinction of being the first Black academic dean at the University of Missouri at Kansas City. Prior to his change in position to the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Mr. Van Trece was a Social Studies teacher at Northeast Junior High School. He also served as a counselor in that school. After leaving the junior high school, he became as assistant principal at Sumner High School. Mr. Van Trece retired in 1985.."
