USD 500 Preschool
Location: Education Center at Indian Springs Mall/Marketplace (4601 State Avenue, Suite #38)
From the KCKs Public Schools Staff Notebook, Vol 35, Issue 4, 09 Sept 2004 . . .
Change has meant growth and opportunity for the district's Early Childhood program. A new preschool opened this year as part of the Education Center at Indian Springs Marketplace. The preschool houses approximately three quarters of the district's early childhood students. The other one quarter remain at the Lowell and Morse preschool sites. A total of 425 students are now being served through the three preschool sites, giving the young children the academic enrichment and socialization skills they need to prepare them to enter kindergarten.
The opening of the Early Childhood center at the Education Center has resulted in overall program growth and expanded learning and partnership opportunities. The district now is able to serve 25 more students due to more classroom space and the classrooms are in a consolidated location providing the opportunity for teaching to collaborate with one another.
Now the Children's Museum of KCK has received a grant to partner with the preschool at the Education Center. Students will visit the Museum twice a month for hands on activities that support classroom instructions.
"The focus of the program is to improve our children's vocabulary and oral language skills, which is one of our goals for instruction," said Bev Manlove, principal.
Morse and Lowell students will also make frequent field trips to the museum, and staff provided with curriculum to teach in the classrooms. The grant also is allowing the museum to provide all preschool families in the district with one year of free admission.
