Central Office and Training Center
2010 N. 59th St., Kansas City, KS 66104
The $14.7 million Central Office and Training Center is a brand new facility for the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, which houses the entire central office staff, while also providing space for students and community groups to meet, work and perform. Remarkably, the district was able to construct this facility for essentially the same annual cost it paid to lease the former Education Center space at Indian Springs.
This was made possible through the use of the $4.5 million relocation payment received from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, along with the use of federal stimulus money and capital outlay funds.
The stimulus money provided a tax credit, which allowed the district to issue Qualified School Construction Bonds, which will be repaid over 20 years. The stimulus funds lowered the interest rate for these bonds to almost zero, saving almost 50% of the repayment cost of financing the building.
