KCK Students Place in Area BizFest Competition
Several students in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools took home awards at the recent 2007 Kansas City area BizFest Competition.
Hosted by the Greater Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, BizFest is 3-1/2 day intensive workshop series that equips Latino students, ages 17-25, with the tools to become successful both in business and life. Students gain entrepreneurial experience, economic literacy, improved skills in math, reading, writing and verbal communication and workforce readiness.
Out of the 43 students participating from throughout the KC area, 14 were KCKPS students. The following received awards: Samuel Acosta, senior at J.C. Harmon High School, MVP award; Julio Mata, Jr., senior at Sumner Academy of Arts and Science, second place; Jhonan Pineda, senior at Wyandotte High School, fourth place; and Carminda Rivera, senior at Wyandotte, courage award.
For placing in the top three, Mata will advance to the National BizFest Competition set to take place in September 2007 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
