KCK Students to Sample the Field of Construction

More than 600 students from the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools will get hands-on exposure to the construction industry and construction jobs at Kansas City's iBuild event.

Set for May 3 at Bartle Hall, iBuild will bring area middle and high school students together to meet construction professionals and see construction equipment in action. The event is being hosted by the National Institute for Construction Excellence.

"We know that by attending this event, our students will gain more knowledge about the construction industry and see it as a valuable and successful field that holds many career opportunities for them," said Lori Hewitt, work-based learning specialist for KCKPS.

During the event, students will be divided into small groups and guided through more than 85 displays of real on-the-jobsite, off-the-jobsite equipment and technology that make construction interesting and meaningful. They will interact with more than 150 tradesmen, architects and engineers and some will even have an opportunity to operate construction equipment.

There are more than 200 job opportunities available in the construction business and through this event, students will get a sampling of many of them.

Partners and supporters of NICE and the iBuild event include the Builders Association, MoDOT, KDOT, Greater Kansas City Building & Trades Council, Black and Veach, KCPL, the Mid-America Minority Business Development Council and more.
