Super Summer Reading Achievers -
Lunch with the Superintendent
Dr. Jill Shackelford, Superintendent of Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools is honoring Super Summer Reading Achievers* with "Lunch with the Superintendent." The luncheon was just one incentive in the 2006 Summer Reading Achievers program.
Administrators and secretarial staff at the Education Center (4601 State Avenue, Suite 38) will be serving a pizza and salad lunch at 10:45 and 12:00 to students. The lunch will be served on REAL dishes, with REAL Silverware and REAL cloth tablecloths!
After lunch is served, students will be told of another incentive that they have won — a $20.00 gift certificate to the Legends Shopping Center.
Several luncheons have already been held. Monday is our last day. Below is an excerpt of a letter from Doris Hamilton, librarian at John Fiske Elementary School, thanking staff for their efforts.
"This was the most fantastic opportunity for our children ... When I paraded 61 children into the Ed Center, I was so very, very proud of my kids. But, I want to tell you that the proudest, greatest moment for me was when all of you made two lines, applauded and cheered my kids. You were loud, it was very obvious that you seriously were proud of their accomplishment ... My kids told you that they felt like "Movie Stars." ... They will never forget this moment ..."
Please come to experience this event. It's the feel-good story of the month!
*Super Summer Reading Achievers at the elementary level read 700+ pages over the summer. Incentives were entry into a drawing for an iPod, Lunch with the Superintendent, and a $20 gift certificate to the Legends Shopping Center. Top readers at each school received two tickets to Summer Reading Achievers Night at the Movies.
