TO DEDICATE NEW SNOW SCHOOL TUESDAY
Dedication ceremonies for the new half-million-dollar Snow school, located between Fisher and Booth on the south side of West Forty-third in Rosedale district, will be held Tuesday night at 8 o'clock.
The speaker will be the Rev. Oscar E. Bonny, pastor of the Rosedale Congregational church. Frank Rushton, president of the board of education will dedicate the building. Guests will be invited to inspect the building at the conclusion of the program.
The pledge of allegiance will be led by Boy Scouts attending the school. Milford Craff, director of music for the schools, will lead the singing of the national anthem. Mrs. Kathryn Bascom will be the accompanist. The Rev. J. Alvin Barlow, pastor of the Rosedale Baptist church, will present the invocation.
A vocal solo, "Bless This House," will be sung by Mrs. William Ehlers. She will be accompanied by Mrs. Frank Richards.
F. L. Schlagle, superintendent of schools, will preside at the program. He will introduce the members of the board of education - Rushton, the president; Dr. K. C. Haas, vice president; Roy A. Edwards, Ralph E. Evans, Ralph A. Fulton, and Joe Vaughan.
Other introductions will include:Lewis H. Brotherson, business manager for the board of education; Earl R. Wilson and Robert E. Earnheart, architects of the William S. Rawlings Construction company, the Brookside Heating company and Kason Electric company, contractors for the building; Mrs. Nela Harvey, PTA president; Miss Elizabeth Chittenden, principal; Mrs. Coraleona Taylor, Miss Mary Anna Oglevie, Miss Esther Sprattler, Mrs. Kathryn Beacom, Mrs. Jo Ann Woolpert, Mrs. Dickye Christenbury, and Mrs. Wanda Dyer, teachers, and Ray L. DeMoss custodian.
Students first attended classes in the new building on January 2, when schools reopened after the Christmas holidays. However, they had moved their books and belongings from the former Snow school, at Texas and Minnie, on the last day of classes before the holidays.
The new school is a single story building on a 6.85-acre site and contains nine classrooms, a kindergarten, an activity room, a library, and an office and health suite. It is constructed of brick, stone and glazed tile paneling. The pitched roof is finished with marble chips to blend in with the residential character of the neighborhood.
