What is ESL?
The English as a Second Language program is designed to teach students who speak languages other than English. The program addresses the affective, linguistic, and cognitive needs of limited English proficient students.
ESL Services for Students & Families:
ESL Classes (Sheltered Instruction, Pull-out, Collaboration), Migrant Services, Newcomer Center (Argentine Middle School / Central Middle School), Parent Advisory Meetings, Reading for Spanish Speakers (Harmon High School / Wyandotte High School)
Our Goals:
Maintain students first language & culture while learning English
Identify & assess all language minority students with LAS / KELPA testing
Provide Bilingual / ESL materials and resources to teacher, students, and parents
Involve parents & community into schools
Minority / ESL teacher recruitment
Academic success for ELL
Provide ESL service to all students including SPED
