Certificate of Recognition for Sumner Academy

Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools’ Sumner Academy of Arts and Science received a “Commended” recognition by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) for performing arts.

Sumner Academy Principal Dr. Steven Scraggs said, ““Sumner Academy of Arts and Science is honored to be named  a “Commended” school by The National Federation of State High School Associations and Kansas State High School Activities Association.  We are very proud of our talented students and dedicated instructors who work countless hours to compete and share their love of learning and performing.”

The Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA), Kansas Speech Communication Association (KSCA), and the Kansas Thespians along with the KSHSAA collaborated to discuss numerous high schools that scored exceptionally high in debate, speech, music, theater over the past five years.

The committee and the KSHSAA chose one winner, three finalists, and 11 commended high schools from across the state of Kansas.  Each of the schools will be recognized with a certificate from the KSHSAA.
