Colonel Clarence E. Taylor, Jr. II

Colonel Clarence E. Taylor, Jr. IIAs a youth, Colonel Clarence E. Taylor, Jr. II had many positive experiences in school and his personal life that gave him reasons to believe. He has fond memories of his second-grade teacher who followed his progress all the way through college. Most important, his faith, coupled with a strong family and community bond, has always motivated him to strive for excellence.

A Kansas City, Kan., native and 1974 graduate of J.C. Harmon High School, Colonel Taylor currently serves as the Commander of the 2nd Support Group, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. The base hosts 11,500 military, civilian and reserve personnel, 18,000 retirees and 28,000 family members on 22,000 acres. Colonel Taylor directs and manages all communications, computer systems, engineering, fire protection, environmental programs, personnel programs, community services, law enforcement and security support provided to the 2nd Bomb Wing and 34 associate units, including Headquarters Eighth Air Force and the 917th Air Force Reserve Center. He assumed command in August 2001.

Colonel Taylor's rise to base commander began when he received his commission and bachelor's degree in May 1978 from Washburn University, Topeka, Kan. In 1985, he earned a master's degree in public administration from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, Calif., and, in 1999, he earned a master's degree in national resource management from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. He is a master navigator with 2,458 hours in the B-1 and B-52 bomber aircraft.

He is married to the former Harriett McCallop of Shawnee Mission, Kan., and they have two children, Clarence and Christina.
