Educators, community and business leaders, and area residents are invited to attend a special event to support the new Maurice R. Holman Academy of Excellence.
The North East Business Association (NEBA) and the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) are hosting a Fund Raising Banquet for the newly formed public charter school on Saturday, April 12 at the Reardon Convention Center, 5th and Minnesota Ave. Festivities will begin at 6 p.m.
Keynote speaker for the evening will be Ephren Taylor, II, CEO of City Capital Corporation. He is the youngest African-American CEO of any publicly traded company. The program also will include an informational session on the goals and plans for the new charter school, as well as entertainment.
Tickets for the Banquet are $100 per person, or $1,000 for a table of 10. Reservation are due by Wednesday, April 9. Set to open in August 2008, the Maurice Holman Academy will serve up to 110 public school students in grades K-5. It will offer unique curricular instructional approaches with high academic standards for all students. Foreign languages, charter development and entrepreneurial opportunities will be among the many offerings. The school will be located in the former Parker Elementary School site, 3334 Haskell.
Enrollment details will be available this spring and will be relayed to the community through a series of informational meetings. More details on the meetings will be forthcoming.
