The application process continues for students interested in attending the new Maurice Holman Academy of Excellence Public Elementary Charter School. The school is open to students entering kindergarten through 5th grade who reside in Kansas City, Kansas. The application deadline is Friday, May 30.
Set to open in August 2008, Holman's academic focus will include foreign languages, and entrepreneurial and governmental exposure in the context of the highly successful Core Knowledge Curriculum. Its academic program is designed to provide aggressive intervention to close "gaps" that have hindered acquisition of basic skills for students who are below proficiency for their grade levels.
Parents who wish to enroll their children must schedule an appointment by contacting Nalini Dale, (913) 279-2312. No walk-ins will be allowed. All applications for enrollment must be completed at the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools' Education Center, located at the former Indian Springs Mall, 47th and State Avenue.
Holman Academy is located at the former Parker Elementary School site, 3334 Haskell, and will serve approximately 100 students. School will begin on August 15.
