Approximately 150 students in the Wyandotte Comprehensive Special Education Cooperative will gather to learn and practice job skills in a friendly competitive environment.
The students will be a part of the 8th Annual Job Olympics, set for 9:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Friday, April 18 at the Bonner Springs PE Center. Job Olympics is a competition developed to promote transition and employability skills for a broad continuum of secondary students with disabilities.
Students will practice skills such as sacking groceries, basic carpentry, sorting mail and folding laundry. Floral arrangement is a new event that has been added this year. Medals will be awarded to first through third place winners in each category.
To wrap up the day of competition, students will celebrate at an Olympian Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. at J. C. Harmon High School. There will be live entertainment and refreshments will be served. The event is being sponsored by the Earl E. O'Conner Inn of Court, a professional organization.
For more information on the event or to sign up to be a volunteer, contact Cheryl McDonald, (913) 627-7831.
