Parents with children who will be five years old on or before August 31, 2008 should take advantage of the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools' (KCKPS) Kindergarten Roundup set for Thursday, April 24. It will be held at each of the KCKPS elementary schools.
"Sending young children off to school for the first time can be an anxious time for families. Getting an early start with the enrollment process at the district roundups can ease some of the stress. It also gives families and school staff an opportunity to start learning about each other and to strengthen their relationships," said Jayson Strickland, executive director of instruction.
Parents should bring the following information with them:
What happens at Kindergarten Roundup? Activities will vary from school to school, but children will be given the opportunity to get acquainted with the kindergarten teacher(s), and learn a little about going to school, while parents complete the necessary paperwork. In many instances, translators will be provided.
Look for signs and/or flyers from your neighborhood school describing the time they will hold their roundup. For a directory of schools go to www.kckps.org/directory/school/.
