The KCK School Foundation for Excellence is hosting its 18th annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Wednesday, June 4 at Sunflower Hills Golf Course, Bonner Springs, Kan. The event is open to area residents and businesses. The Foundation for Excellence was formed in 1990 to foster excellence in education. Since 1991, the Foundation has sponsored an annual golf fund raiser to benefit students. To date, 191 scholarships have been awarded to students using money raised at the event.
Businesses and community members can enjoy a day on the golf course while supporting students in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools. Teams of four can participate for $600, corporate individuals at a rate of $150, or district employee individuals at a rate of $125. Sponsorship opportunities for businesses include:
Individuals, teams and/or businesses can also sponsor a hole for $300. These sponsorships include tickets for lunch and the awards dinner. A cart sponsorship also is available for $50.
"Participating in the tournament is more than just about playing golf, it's about believing in our students and making a difference toward their college education. Support from businesses and our community through this tournament is just another way of showing how much you care," said Christal Watson, community foundation specialist.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start at noon. An awards dinner will follow the tournament at 6:30 p.m. where the top finishing teams and sponsors will be recognized.
This year, 12 graduating seniors each received a $3,000 scholarship from the Foundation. They are: William Bowles, Terrence Kennedy Jr., Vonda Sayavongsone from J.C. Harmon High School; Eric Copeland and Mee Vang from F.L. Schlagle High School; Ricky Randle and Andrea Vertz from Sumner Academy of Arts and Science; Terra Hill and D'Leon McCord from Washington High School; and Seth Irving, Maria Ramirez and Joshua Wright from Wyandotte High School.
