Sumner Academy Forensics Places 3rd at State Tournament

Sumner Academy's forensics team placed third at the Kansas State High School Activities Association's (KSHSAA) State Forensics Championship Tournament. The tournament was held in Topeka on May 2nd and 3rd.

Junior, Stephanie Pounds placed first in the state for Poetry Interpretation. Also medaling were:

• Alyssa Jones – 2nd Place, Prose Interpretation
• Jazmyne Preston – 3rd place, Poetry Interpretation
• Daja Bresette – 3rd place, Serious Solo Acting
• Marcus Banks – 4th place, Serious Solo Acting
• Shahna Campbell and Marcus Banks – 5th place, Duo Interpretation
• Sade Parker – 6th place, Prose Interpretation

Head coach Jamelle McConnell-Brown said of her team: "I am so proud of their hard work and dedication! As one of the only inner-city forensics teams in the state, the kids always represent KCK and Sumner Academy in a positive light!"
