Fans of the Kansas City T-Bones will be sporting more than peanuts and popcorn at next week's games. They will be arriving to the games with new and used books!
The T-Bones have partnered with the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) to host a Book Drive to help collect books for classroom libraries. The drive will take place before games on Thursday and Friday, August 25 and 26 when the T-Bones host the Sioux Falls Pheasants. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
New and gently-used books, book gift cards and cash donations are being sought. The drive is part of the district's "What Are You Reading?" initiative that focuses on creating programs, events, materials and conversations around reading.
"We are proud to partner with the district for this effort," said Chris Browne, T-Bones vice president/general manager. "We know the importance of reading for students of all ages and we want to play a role in providing them with the resources they need to be successful in school. The T-Bones organization works year-round to actively support efforts like this because we care about our community and want to be involved."
KCKPS serves an estimated 20,000 students, and the goal is to collect 10 books for every student to read in their classrooms.
