School Highlights
- AYP: Our school made Adequately Yearly Progress in Reading and in Math for 2006-07!
- Building Leadership Team (BLT): Eisenhower's team, department, and administrative representatives met monthly to plan focused staff development to support our School Improvement Plan. This group also addressed building concerns around the school schedule, student incentives, allocation of school resources, and teachers/parent concerns.
- CHAMPS: CHAMPS was a program designed to reward Eisenhower students who worked hard, completed their agendas, attended school regularly, had minimal tardies, followed the dress code, and followed our code of conduct consistently. There were three levels of CHAMPS cards – Purple, Gold, and Silver. Students who earned CHAMPS cards had quarterly parties, one day a week that they were allowed to be out of uniform, they had an opportunity to be first in the lunch line daily, and a choice to sit where they wanted in the cafeteria every Monday.
- Educational Talent Search: The Talent Search counselors met with qualifying 6-8 grade students at least once a month to discuss study skills, goals, career and college opportunities.
- Annual Diversity Celebration: We highlighted our student talent each year with a diversity celebration that involved the entire student body, parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and community members.
- Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST): Teachers/administrators were working to provide additional strategies that assisted with negative student behaviors. The BIST program helped us to immediately address disruptive and/or hurtful behaviors. Students were given an opportunity to adjust behaviors by using safe seats, buddy rooms, and recovery. This school-wide plan allowed us to address students with accountability and grace. The ultimate goal of BIST was to help students acquire skills that they were missing and keep as many students in school as possible.
- Math Relays: Eisenhower students participated in the Spring Math Relays at Wyandotte High School. Our students took home awards in the areas of Algebra, Number Sense and Data. They also came home with the Participation Trophy for the third straight year!
- Summer Reading Achievers: The middle school student logging the most pages over the summer was from Eisenhower. In addition to this, fifteen of our students read over 3,000 pages.
- Extra-Curricular Activities: In addition to sports activities, our students had an opportunity to participate in pep band, student council, math club, drill team, pep club, Gear Up, and journalism.
- LINK/ASP: Students who had been recommended for long-term suspension were offered an opportunity to attend this after-school program. They were provided with a lower student-teacher ratio for more focused academic instruction. This time away from the regular day gave students a chance to adjust behaviors prior to returning to school.
- Family Advocate System (FAS): Every Eisenhower student was matched with a Family Advocate to build relationships, engage families in the education of their children, and maintain continuity of care between home and school.
- Annual Eighth Grade Celebration: We celebrated with our eighth graders in May for our annual Eighth Grade Celebration – an evening that highlighted their middle school experience.
- Kauffman Scholars: Selected seventh and eighth grade students received the opportunity to work with the Kauffman Foundation. This multi-year program was designed to prepare and support students as they explored options for college. These students had the opportunity for additional tutoring, counseling, career planning, job shadowing, and internship experiences.
- Gear UP: Our cohort class of 2011 continued their partnership with the Kansas Gear UP group in 2006-07. This KU Gear UP group supported these students and their teachers as they moved through Eisenhower. They will continue to support them in high school, and on to college. This group provides tutoring, summer programs, field trip opportunities, college visits, career exploration, and eventually, assistance with college admissions processes.
Mission Statement
REACH – Realizing Expectations through Accountability, Communications, and Higher-level thinking.
This building report card is a brief summary of how your school and students are performing and the impact of your local school improvement plan. However, it should not be used as a single source to judge students or school accomplishments. No single report can tell the whole story of a district's or school's education program. This report card does not provide information about curriculum, teaching methods, special programs, the "climate" of your school or the performance of individual teachers or administrators.
In addition, this report card is not a way of "rating" or "ranking" schools. Because of the distinct community and student characteristics, direct comparison between schools or districts are invalid. Rank-ordering school districts or schools is a clear misuse of the information. Rather, the information should be used to access local strengths and weaknesses based on past performance and to plan program improvements.
