School Highlights
- Family Advocacy Program: Frances Willard participated in the Family Advocacy Program. This program helped foster strong relationships between the teacher, student, and the student's family.
- Literacy: A strong emphasis was placed on the improvement of reading through a Balanced Literacy Program and Animated Literacy. Students in 1st grade participated in the Kansas Accelerated Literacy Learning (KALL) Program. This was Frances Willard's fifth year in the KALL program, which is an intervention program designed to help 1st graders read at their grade level. Frances Willard also hired a reading intervention teacher to support our 4th and 5th grade students who need extra assistance.
- Reading Is Fundamental: The Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) program allowed students three opportunities to select books to take home, so students could add to their own personal libraries.
- Tutoring: Frances Willard teachers and students teamed with Wesley United Methodist Church to provide tutoring and mentoring activities for over fifty of our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
- Math: Our teachers and students were involved in their fifth year of our math curriculum called Math Investigations. Math Investigations was designed to provide hands on learning activities for students and improve their problem solving skills.
- ESL: Frances Willard had three full-time English Language Learner (ELL) staff members. These staff members assisted our growing number of ELL students to build language development and vocabulary skills.
- Assessments: Formative and summative assessments continue to play an important role in the planning and development of our school curriculum. This was the first year of the NWEA-MAP assessments for Frances Willard. Students took this formative assessment three times during the year. The data was used to inform teachers on student progress in reading and mathematics.

Frances Willard Elementary School will provide a posiTive, chaLlenging, Caring and safe learning experience for all students.
This building report card is a brief summary of how your school and students are performing and the impact of your local school improvement plan. However, it should not be used as a single source to judge students or school accomplishments. No single report can tell the whole story of a district's or school's education program. This report card does not provide information about curriculum, teaching methods, special programs, the "climate" of your school or the performance of individual teachers or administrators.
In addition, this report card is not a way of "rating" or "ranking" schools. Because of the distinct community and student characteristics, direct comparison between schools or districts are invalid. Rank-ordering school districts or schools is a clear misuse of the information. Rather, the information should be used to access local strengths and weaknesses based on past performance and to plan program improvements.
