School Highlights
- Student achievement in reading: 62% of our third, fourth and fifth graders performed at proficient or above on the state reading assessment.
- Positive achievement in math: 77% of our third, fourth, and fifth graders performed at proficient or above on the state math assessment.
- Participation in Just Read Program: This program encouraged students to read outside of school and helped to develop a love for reading. Our students read over 20,000 books last year.
- Family Advocacy System: We valued the importance of involving everyone in our school community to better engage students. We promoted continuous communication with parents through newsletters, conferences and phone calls. In 2006-07, the building reported over 95% participation in Family Advocacy meetings.
- United Way campaign: Our students raised $1,200 to donate to the United Way.
- Family Involvement Nights: Our PTA hosted evening events that provided parents with information and resources to help their child at home. Live animals, interactive art activities, make-it and take-it games and exploratory computer interactions were a few of the ways we engaged our families.
- Excellence in Education: This program recognized students quarterly who had perfect attendance, performed well academically and displayed positive behavior. 172 awards were presented throughout the year to 92 different students. The program was sponsored by the University of Kansas Medical Center Security and Rosedale Association.
- Curriculum enrichment: Our teachers planned and developed curriculum that engaged students in a wide range of learning activities. Students in third, fourth and fifth grade had weekly technology instruction. Field trips taken to enhance our curriculum included Earthworks, STARBASE and Exchange City.
- Implementation of Math Investigations Curriculum: This curriculum offered in-depth experiences in number, data, geometry and the mathematics of change. Students were encouraged to express mathematical thinking and develop their own strategies to solve problems.
- On-going staff development: Weekly staff development sessions were driven by the goals outlined in our school improvement plan. Our focus was to further develop the knowledge and expertise of our staff, improve instruction and increase student achievement.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to provide students with the knowledge and skills to be the best they can be by becoming self sufficient, respectful and responsible members of society.
This building report card is a brief summary of how your school and students are performing and the impact of your local school improvement plan. However, it should not be used as a single source to judge students or school accomplishments. No single report can tell the whole story of a district's or school's education program. This report card does not provide information about curriculum, teaching methods, special programs, the "climate" of your school or the performance of individual teachers or administrators.
In addition, this report card is not a way of "rating" or "ranking" schools. Because of the distinct community and student characteristics, direct comparison between schools or districts are invalid. Rank-ordering school districts or schools is a clear misuse of the information. Rather, the information should be used to access local strengths and weaknesses based on past performance and to plan program improvements.
