School Highlights
- White Church Elementary had a dedicated, caring and involved staff, parents, and community. This allowed White Church to offer a quality educational program for all students.
- The staff, parents, and community of White Church Elementary were proud to have received the NCLB – National Blue Ribbon School Recognition in the fall of 2005.
- White Church consistently made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) on the Kansas State Assessments.
- Positive Behavior Support (PBS) has been implemented for several years at White Church Elementary. This allowed for building a community of learners and created a positive environment in which students, staff, parents, and community members were held to the school wide expectations of: Be Respectful, Be a Learner, Be in Control.
- Math Club was held for the fifth consecutive year. This was a club where all students, regardless of ability, were invited to attend an after school club to participate in becoming a mathematician. Our goal was to increase the students' belief in themselves as mathematicians.
- Primary students made their annual hike to a community nursing home. They took some gifts for the residents and performed Halloween songs. Many parents as well as the teachers and the police department escorted the costumed students for the four-mile round trip hike.
- During the year families were invited to participate in many activities, some just for friendship and some for educational purposes. The staff designed Math and Reading Nights and parents were invited to come experience reading and math through their child's curriculum. Each grade participated in at least one musical a year. Family Advocacy Days were held where parents were allowed to make an appointment with their child's teacher and then take the time to visit with the teacher about their child's specific needs.
- White Church provided quality instruction through the use of Balanced Literacy, Math Investigations, Integrated Thematic Units and small flexible groups to provide diverse opportunities for students to learn.
- All students were able to attend academically focused field trips some of which were: Star Base, Earth Works, Exchange City, Union Station, Royals Baseball, and the Zoo.
- At the end of the year, parents were invited to school for a Celebration of Learning where students could "show off" their learning for the year through an open house concept. New Kindergarten parents were also invited to pre-enroll their child for kindergarten and visit classrooms. Families could also reserve a meal and have dinner at the school that evening.
Mission Statement
It is our purpose to create an environment where every student is consistently successful. We will work to create students who are life long learners, problem solvers, and appropriate decision makers.
This building report card is a brief summary of how your school and students are performing and the impact of your local school improvement plan. However, it should not be used as a single source to judge students or school accomplishments. No single report can tell the whole story of a district's or school's education program. This report card does not provide information about curriculum, teaching methods, special programs, the "climate" of your school or the performance of individual teachers or administrators.
In addition, this report card is not a way of "rating" or "ranking" schools. Because of the distinct community and student characteristics, direct comparison between schools or districts are invalid. Rank-ordering school districts or schools is a clear misuse of the information. Rather, the information should be used to access local strengths and weaknesses based on past performance and to plan program improvements.
