Our Standards, Benchmarks, Indicators (SBIs) are published and updated on Compass (our district portal). There has been a request to also keep them posted on the Internet. If you can log on to Compass, please do so since the SBIs there are the most current. Please be aware that although our goal is to maintain current versions on the website as well, Compass will always contain the most current versions.
Please select the desired SBI for a .pdf print version of what is posted on Compass.
The explanation for the numbering system is as follows:
____________. ______________. ______________. ___________
Grade Level Standard Benchmark Indicator
9.1.3.1 = 9th Grade; Standard One; Benchmark 3; Indicator 1.
Please continue to align Curriculum and build lesson plans using the SBIs as a map. We need to collaborate with grade/course level peers to map the curriculum and pace instruction so that the key concepts measured by the Kansas Assessment are taught before the event occurs. We must continue to strive to stay true to the course SBIs and not "water" down the course because we think our kids can't handle it. We must help each other to scaffold learning for the kids so they get a shot at the SBIs for the course. KCK local assessments measure how well the SBIs are "mastered." We have room for improvement.
Please remember to document the SBIs in lesson plans to keep your principal informed of your progress toward completion of the SBIs for your course/grade level.
Standards based instruction is time consuming and complex. Teachers are the key to making the SBIs real – not this document.
Thank you for developing a standards-based classroom and improving learning for KCK kids.
Educationally yours,
Dr. Jill Shackelford
Superintendent of Schools
