STS Academic Liaisons

The academic liaison will work closely with the school's Alternative School Program (ASP) facilitators to assist students in achieving academically. The role of the academic liaison is to coordinate with teachers to make sure STS students receive class work needing to be completed. The goal is to avoid having students fall behind academically during their participation in the STS program. The liaison will gather work from teachers, distribute it to students, collect completed assignments from students, and return completed assignments to teachers.

As assisting our students academically is a vital component of the STS program, time set aside for the role of the academic liaison may not be used for other purposes. During the 2008-09 school year, academic liaisons are approved to be paid through STS funds for a maximum of four hours per week. Those hours are to be solely devoted to assisting STS students academically.

STS Monitors

The role of the STS monitor is to effectively manage the STS classroom by actively engaging students in the Second Step curriculum to ensure pro-social skills are being learned and enhanced. The STS monitor teaches the Second Step curriculum in a 10-day rotation so that all STS students receive full benefit of the materials presented. The monitor is responsible for addressing parent concerns with the building administrator as needed, and providing written reports to the STS program specialist on a monthly basis. Performance of this position is evaluated by the building administrator and the STS program specialist.
