Short Term Suspension Alternative
STS Components
- Parent, student, and building administrator sign STS Program Contract
- Parent and student attend and participate in Parent/Student Orientation
- Student participates in STS Program at school for 10 consecutive days
- Student actively engages in implementation of Second Step curriculum
- Student follows the rules of the classroom
- Academic Link
- Student completes and submits required homework and/or assignments during the 10-day period
- Students participates in the After School Program (ASP)
- 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. each school day while enrolled in the STS Program
— typically M, T, H, F
- a minimum of 10 hours per week and may include up to four hours on Saturday
- Parent and student conference with student's advocate
- prior to or immediately following student's return to the regular classroom
- Parent and student may be required to sign a Transition Contract before students returns to the regular classroom

- The school's academic liaison should be made aware of each new student referred to the STS program.
- Each Monday, school administrators should remind parents of current STS participants to attend that night's mandatory orientation.
- Each Monday night or Tuesday morning, school administrators will receive an email listing those referred students who attended that week's orientation.
- Students who failed to attend should be placed on the Do Not Admit list until the parent can provide an acceptable explanation regarding the failure to attend the orientation.
- School administrators should follow-up with those students/parents who failed to attend as needed.
