Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) offers 3 unique programs designed to recruit and support individuals who want to be teachers in our district.
KCK Fellows Program – This alternative certification program is open to individuals who hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent content in an area such as math, science, Spanish, or English, and who aspire to become teachers in one of our middle schools or high schools. The course of study for this teacher education program is offered in Kansas City through a partnership with Pittsburg State University. Applications will be accepted starting September 15, 2008 – April 1, 2009 for the 2009-2010 school year.
Employee to Teacher (E–T) Program – This program is a tuition reimbursement program designed for individuals who are already employees of KCKPS. Tuition is reimbursed for employees who will commit to teaching in our district when they complete their teacher licensure program. The length of commitment is determined by the amount of reimbursement provided. Grow Your Own Program – This program is a scholarship program designed for KCKPS students who are willing to commit to teaching in our district when they complete their teacher licensure program. Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 will be provided to one senior from each of our high schools each year. These scholarships are renewable for up to 4 years while the student is attending full time. The length of commitment is determined by the amount of reimbursement provided. Interested district seniors should contact a school counselor, Teacher of Tomorrow sponsor, or Tyrone Bates at (913) 568-2592 or tybates@kckps.org for more information.
