Virus Information

Virus Updates ... opens a page containing the latest security alerts from Symantec.com.

Computer viruses can be deadly to a network. It's very important that we do all we can to prevent virus infections. The district uses a virus protection program and updates it regularly. As a general rule to protect yourself from email-borne viruses you should follow these guidelines:

  1. Never double-click email attachments. If you receive a document or spreadsheet that you want to look at, with GroupWise simply right-click the attachment then select View Attachment. The built-in viewer in GroupWise can handle most file types.
  2. If the attachment appears to be an executable program, never run it, despite what the accompanying email says, and no matter from whom it is received. It is now a common ploy for spreading viruses to make it appear it is from someone you know and trust. Innocent looking screen savers can be a malicious virus.

Unless you are expecting an attachment from someone never double-click on it.

Any and all virus alerts from the TIS department will have the subject Updated virus information from TIS, since "Virus Alert!!" and "Dangerous Virus Warning" are becoming popular ways of spreading viruses. You should disregard and delete email messages with those subject lines. We will never send you a virus warning as an attachment. Details of viruses will be in the message body.

Contact the Help Center (279-2330) immediately if you suspect a virus attack on your computer.
