Why does USD 500 request employees to do a health risk appraisal and health screenings?

The goal of tools like the HRA and health screenings is to improve the health of our employees by giving each employee their risk analysis and encouraging them to take the steps recommended. We need employees to become more actively involved in improving their health because health risks are driving up employee's cost and USD 500 cost substantially each year.

We, as an employee population can reduce our costs by engaging in healthy behavior such as getting preventive care, and getting screenings like mammograms and a colonoscopy. By taking action now we can reduce serious health risks such as obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, metabolic syndrome and diabetes. If we continue to use more expensive medical services for more serious health conditions our costs will continue to increase each year.

Why does USD 500 care about an employee's health?

Because poor health costs more and 45%-60% of health risks are preventable and manageable if the employee takes action to change behavior and lifestyle. Healthier employees will keep cost increases lower for both USD 500 and the employee. Also, healthier employees enjoy life and have more energy and are able to give the best instruction to our students.

How is an employee's privacy and the HRA and Health Screening data protected?

Your individual results are given to you only. The data is not used for eligibility for benefits and there is no differentiation in the benefits you receive. The date is housed in an outside data repository by independent third party vendors who analyze the data. The data is kept private, confidential and secure. Fit500 Employee Wellness program and Benefits receives de-indentified reports on aggregate data which helps us determine whether our population health is improving or declining, what our risks are, what benefits and programs we need in our health plan and wellness programs.
